The end of the summer approaches in Bala, and at the Old Workhouse B&B thoughts are turning to stocking the larder for the winter with some foraged fruits from around the lake.
Today, as the season of mist and mellow fruitfulness nears, it was four pounds of brambles for jam-making – an essential part of running the business and providing home made jam.
The lake, less than a five-minute stroll from the B&B, was still today and the remaining holidaymakers were out in force on kayaks and paddle boards. I, however, was rooting round in the nettles and undergrowth picking natures harvest of brambles – the odd one falling to the ground as a bonus for the various scurrying beasties.
Couple of Bramley apples, preserving sugar, and a lemon and I’m in business. Come and enjoy!
